Elder's Meditation of The Day

"If people are going to get back into balance, one of the things they have to do is seek the truth.
They have to start really speaking the truth themselves, and that's a difficult thing to do. The way
it is now in the world, we don't mind lying."
            John Peters (Slow Turtle), WAMPANOAG

'Well everybody's doing it.' 'Do unto others before they do unto you.' 'If it wasn't for back luck, I would have no luck at all.' These are excuses and rationalizations for giving up accountability. Be true to yourself. Seek the truth, The Great Spirit is the truth. The truth shall set you free. This is the truth. We cannot be free if we are dishonest nor can we live a balanced life if we are dishonest. As we grow, we need to start taking stands. All warriors take stands. The warrior's belief is constantly being aligned to truth. The warrior will always know where he/she stands.

Great Spirit, help me today to seek Your truth, not my truth.

Communication/Persuasion

For effective communication, use brevity. Jesus said, "Follow me." Now that's brief! He could be brief because of all that he was that he didn't have to say.

You cannot speak that which you do not know. You cannot share that which you do not feel. You cannot translate that which you do not have. And you cannot give that which you do not possess. To give it and to share it, and for it to be effective, you first need to have it. Good communication starts with good preparation.

The goal of effective communication should be for listeners to say, "Me, too!", rather than, "So what?"

Learn to express, not impress.

Better understated than overstated. Let people be surprised that it was more than you promised and easier than you said.

Be brief on the logic and reason portion of your presentation. There are probably about a thousand facts about an automobile, but you don't need them all to make a decision. About a half dozen will do.

Effective communication is 20% what you know and 80% how you feel about what you know.

What is powerful is when what you say is just the tip of the iceberg of what you know.

It's not the matter you cover so much as it is the manner in which you cover it.

To Your Success,
Jim Rohn

Be still, and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10

Have you ever turned on your television or radio, not really to listen to it, but just so that it will block out the silence? There are so many opportunities throughout our day, for us to avoid being quiet and alone with our thoughts and our God. How many times do we watch with awe, as the sun sets at the end of the day, or notice that the leaves are beginning to change color in the fall, or even take the time to enjoy the food that we eat? Most of these precious events pass us by, for the most part un-noticed, as we scurry off to the next event of the day.

Each and every moment of our lives does not need to be engulfed with activity. We can slow down, stop for more than a minute and enjoy all that surrounds us. God has created beautiful things in our lives that we fail to see, when we refuse to slow down. God is not in a hurry and He certainly is not bound by our schedules or impatience. God's timing is perfect for everything. We are the ones that need to slow down, sit back and soak in all that God is and has surrounded us with daily. By always seeking the grand events, we often miss the day to day events right in our midst that are truly awesome.

As You Travel Through Life...
As you travel through life there are always those times
When decisions just have to be made,
When the choices are hard, and solutions seem scarce,
And the rain seems to soak your parade.
There are some situations where all you can do
Is simply let go and move on,
Gather your courage and choose a direction
That carries you toward a new dawn.
So pack up your troubles and take a step forward -
The process of change can be tough,
But think about all the excitement ahead
There might be adventures you never imagined
Just waiting around the next bend,
And wishes and dreams just about to come true
In ways you can't yet comprehend!
Perhaps you'll find friendships that spring from new things
As you challenge your status quo,
And learn there are so many options in life,
Perhaps you'll go places you never expected
And see things that you've never seen,
Or travel to fabulous, faraway worlds
And wonderful spots in between!
Perhaps you'll find warmth and affection and caring
And somebody special who's there
To help you stay centered and listen with interest
To stories and feelings you share.
Perhaps you'll find comfort in knowing your friends
Are supportive of all that you do,
And believe that whatever decisions you make,
They'll be the right choices for you.
So keep putting one foot in front of the other,
And taking your life day by day...
There's a brighter tomorrow that's just down the road -
Don't look back! You're not going that way!

Can Sp@m ALERT

We want to make sure you receive The Cat's Meow, every week!!!
To make sure that your issue passes the s p @ m filters, and reaches your email inbox, please
add online@online-thecatsmeow.com to your address book.
This is particularly important if you are at AOL, Yahoo, or MSN/Hotmail.

Over the holidays, due to the HUGE number of undeliverable emails to the "Big 3" ISPs (as well as some others), we were forced to remove many subscribers from our rolls, in part due to the CANSPAM regulations that went into effect on New Year's Day, and also due to a policy these ISPs have of blacklisting any mailing list which has a large number of undeliverable email addresses. We're in the process of verifying these addresses, and hope to have most of you back with us, soon. (If you haven't received TCM, recently, remember that it can always be seen on our Archives page.)

If you are at a "free" email account at one of the "Big 3", we've been advised that your delivery problems MAY continue. We suggest that you switch your subscription to a PAID account, if at all possible. They seem less prone to delivery problems. (A 'free email account' may pass through as many as 22 servers on its way to you, while most paid accounts have 5 or fewer relays. If just one is blocked, your email cannot be delivered!)

Due to a little-publicized provision in the new CANSPAM law, if you are unsubscribed from our mailing list, for any reason, we cannot accept your re-subscription from the same email address. This applies to all who subscribe after January 1, 2004. So, please, keep those inboxes well emptied, because we have to remove you after 3 'over quota' bounces!!!

VERNON HOWARD LESSON
From a talk on November 8, 1985

Never acknowledge any other human being on earth as superior to you in your opportunity to become spiritually intelligent. Never believe that anyone has a superior chance to rise higher in the unique spiritual world than you can. Human beings are equal in the sight of God in opportunity. The opportunity for you to go as far as you want, as high as you want, is right in front of you.

HOW TO DISSOLVE PROBLEMS INSTEAD OF OPPOSING THEM
By Tom Russell

Lingering problems, such as tension, frustration or anguish, are not enemies to battle but false patterns that house originally pure energy. These problems are dissolved by letting them hover in the midst of your awareness, without self-condemnation, with the aim of completely understanding its content. Hence, problems are dissolved by understanding all the intricacies of the false pattern. This frees the pure energy to return to its natural cosmic flow.

The sure sign of a successful entrance into a false pattern is that the problem temporarily intensifies. What is really happening is that you are now seeing the roots of the pattern, instead of just "suffering on the surface." This is why solving any problem (even an inefficiency at the office or a problem in the family) always includes a healthy upheaval in the beginning. Isn't this tremendous! Problems are dissolved by a willingness to have the problem intensify, with awareness, and not by trying to push the problem into a smaller space.

Spiritual success requires a willingness to face our inner world as it is, and not as we imagine that it is. This is the healing power of HONESTY, which Vernon Howard once said is the eighth wonder of the world.

"The pure act of seeing the fact, whatever the fact be,
brings its own understanding and from this, mutation takes place."

             J. Krishnamurti

NUGGETS OF WISDOM FROM PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA

1. The material man takes life seriously and MAKES it full of worries, sorrow and
tragedy. The divine man makes life an enjoyable game. The desire-infested man is full
of mental ups and downsnd mind-corroding moods, while the desireless yogi is evenly
happy although he is variously active. There is no excuse for any man to live
miserably, oblivious to his divine nature.

2. The light shining in the bulb cannot exist without the electric current to sustain it,
but the current exists whether or not it shines forth through the bulb. So also,
intelligence cannot work without the power of intuition behind it, but intuition remains
even without the instruments of rational thought.

3. Dogmatic disciples with their little minds strive to represent their own particular master
as greater than other masters. . . Anyone who says, "My master is the greatest incarna-
tion of God, or the only liberated master," is unquestionably ignorant. . . A liberated
disciple is completely loyal to (his teacher) who had shown him the way to
liberation, but he always respects other avatars and masters.Ignorant disciples, trying
to glorify a certain avatar as supreme over other avatars, instead belittle that master
through their . . . hate, inquisitions, crusades and religious wars.

4. Condemning others makes a man oblivious to his own faults, which therefore flourish
unrebuked. Many individuals hide their own serious flaws behind a critical spirit. . . They
cannot stand the painful operation of being themselves corrected. Such persons     expend their energy and intelligence on superficial activities and so have neither time     nor vitality left to concentrate on essentials.

5. As every wave, if it were conscious, could feel the ocean beneath it, so every liberated
being feels the entire Sea of Spirit behind his perception.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil

Ten Commandments for Pet Owners
My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.

Give me time to understand what you want from me. Do not break my spirit with your temper,
though I will always forgive you. Your patience and understanding will teach me more quickly
those things you want me to learn.

Have me spayed or neutered.

Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for your kindness than mine.
Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment.
After all, you have your job, your friends, your entertainment. I have only you.

Speak to me often. Even if I don't understand all your words, I understand your voice
when it's speaking to me. Your voice is the sweetest sound I ever hear,
as you must know by my enthusiastic excitement when your footsteps fall upon my waiting ear.

Please take me inside when it's cold and wet.
I'm a domestic animal and am no longer accustomed to the bitter elements.
I ask for little more than your gentle hands petting me. Keep my bowl filled with clean water; I cannot tell you when I'm thirsty. Feed me good food so that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to be by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to share with you my life, for that is what I live for.
However you treat me, I'll never forget it.

Don't hit me.
Remember, I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.

Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I am not getting the right food, I've been out in the sun too long,
or my heart may be getting old and weak.

Take care of me when I get old. You will grow old too.

When I am very old, when I no longer enjoy good health, please do not make heroic efforts to keep me going.
I am not having fun. Just see to it that my trusting life is taken gently.
And be with me on that difficult journey when it is time to say goodbye.
Never say, "I can't bear to watch".
Everything is easier for me when you are there.
I will leave this earth knowing with my last breath that my fate was always safest in your hands.
I love you.
