Frogman Rescues Cat from Water Hole

ABERDEEN (Scotland) Sure enough, another moggie has gotten it into his head that he can fly...
and it just so happens that he decided to try out his new wings directly above a 60-foot pit filled with 30 feet
of bilge water (hey, we never claimed that all kitties have bright ideas)!  Nevertheless, a virtual mob of
people and frogmen were commissioned to rescue the "castaway cat" yesterday.

Uh-oh.  I knew I smelled trouble when "Snags", senior editor and break room watch-cat for
CatsInTheNews.com, offered to help us out with this article.  Just because he claims that he knows
more than anyone else about scuba diving (possibly due to the fact that he watches those fish
episodes on the Discovery Channel all day), he believes he's the furball for the job.  Oh boy, here we go...

Yesterday, a bird-watching cat got an idea...

It was not a very good idea...

The soggy kitty luckily discovered a concrete ledge in the center of the 200 foot-wide pit.
Suddenly becoming a little smarter than he was previously, the cat swam to the ledge and climbed his way to dry safety.

The Scottish SPCA caught wind of the fate of the marooned moggie and contacted the police department.
John Carle, chief inspector of the SPCA, said: "We have not got the expertise or the equipment
to carry out this sort of rescue and that's why we have asked for the police to help."

The Grampian Police Department's diving team was happy to help out.  The divers suited
up in wet gear and took a plunge into the deep and murky pit, bent on rescuing the kitty in distress.

One police frogman, Sgt. Allen Keith, expected it to be a fairly simple operation:
"It is unusual because it's an animal rescue, it's not our usual kind of job. It won't take long to get to the cat..."

He was in for a surprise...

After receiving a pound or two of flesh from the brave diver, the cat then sprung from the ledge
and back into the murk. Discovering a cardboard box floating idly by, the kitty paddled over to it and
latched on, there to bob most unmercifully in the swamp water.

The dive team saw this as their grand opportunity. They grabbed the cardboard box
(and not the cat -- people learn quick in this story, don't they?) and towed their frightened cargo safely to land.

Of course, now they've got to figure out a way to get this plucky cat to a vet!
How about we leave that adventure for someone else to write about?
Snags ate all of the drawing chalk, anyway.
